Everything about DayStart

A five-minute morning show made for you every day: the Top Story, your calendar, and the weather where you’re headed. Here is how it works.

What is DayStart?

DayStart is an iPhone app that makes you a short morning show every day. It leads with the day’s Top Story, then covers your calendar, the weather where you’re headed, and the news, markets and sports you pick. It is produced before you wake up, so you just press play.

What do I hear in a briefing?

About five minutes, in chapters: the Top Story first, then the rest of the news, your calendar, the weather, markets and sports if you pick them, and a short line to start the day. You choose what goes in and which voice reads it.

Is every part personalized?

Most of it. Your calendar, weather, topics, teams, stocks, voice and length are yours. The Top Story at the start is the same for everyone that morning, so you always hear the day’s biggest story.

Can I change how long it is?

Yes. About five minutes is the default, and you can make it shorter or longer in Settings.

When is it ready? Does it work with a bad signal?

Your briefing is produced ahead of the time you set and downloaded to your phone, so it is ready when you wake up and plays even with a weak signal.

Which voices can I pick?

Three AI voices: Brian, Rachel and Sarah. You can also turn on Co-Host mode in Settings (under Advanced) to hear two hosts trade off.

Can I start it hands-free?

Yes. Say “Hey Siri, play my DayStart”. It also plays in the background and from your lock screen, so you can get ready while you listen.

Do I need an account?

No. DayStart works without an account, so there is nothing to sign up for to get your briefing. You only connect an account if you want your Google or Outlook calendar in the brief.

Which calendars does it support?

Your iPhone’s built-in calendar, plus Google Calendar and Outlook if you connect them in Settings. DayStart reads the day’s events (title, time and place), read-only, and you can disconnect anytime.

What about my privacy?

No account required, no ad trackers, and no tracking across other apps. We only count things in total (for example, how many briefings were played in a day), never per person. The details are in our privacy policy.

Where does the news come from?

Several news sources, mixed on purpose so one outlet’s angle doesn’t set the tone. When the Top Story turns on something someone said, the quote stays in their own words and is attributed to them.

How much does it cost?

Annual is $39.99 a year with a 14-day free trial. Monthly is $4.99 with a 3-day free trial. Weekly is $1.99 with no trial. Prices are in USD and billed through your Apple ID.

How do I cancel?

Open Settings on your iPhone, tap your name, then Subscriptions, and choose DayStart. You keep access until the current period ends. If you come back later, your settings and history are still there.

What do I need to use it?

An iPhone with iOS 17 or later. Briefings are in English. There is no Android or iPad app yet.

How is it different from a news podcast or ChatGPT?

A news podcast is the same show for everyone and doesn’t know your day. An AI chatbot can summarize, but you have to ask, and it doesn’t produce a show that is ready when you wake up. DayStart does both: the day’s news plus your own calendar and weather, produced as a show every morning. See how DayStart compares.

Free to try. No account needed to hear your first briefing.
